Susan Carlson, a Chicago area native, serves as a general assignment reporter for CBS 2's 5:00 PM, 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM News.
Carlson joined CBS 2 in December 2002 as the traffic reporter for the morning news. She also co-anchored CBS 2's Saturday morning newscast at 8:00 AM and served as the anchor and producer of "CBS 2 @ Your Desk," Chicago's first web-only newscast.
A familiar voice in Chicago, Carlson previously served as news reporter and fill-in anchor for the top-rated "Roe Conn and Garry Meier" radio show for four years (1998-2002). In that capacity, she covered everything from breaking news to the city's judicial system. Carlson garnered international exposure while serving as a witness to the Timothy McVeigh execution. While working full-time as a news reporter at WLS radio, Carlson picked up additional duties at WLS-TV as a freelance traffic reporter.
Carlson also worked at WGN-TV (1995-98) as the traffic anchor on the Saturday morning news. Additionally, she served as a news/traffic reporter for several Chicago radio stations including WTMX-FM, WNND-FM (formerly WPNT-FM), WJMK-FM and WSCR-AM.
She has been recognized for excellence in broadcasting throughout her career. Her many honors include: two local Emmy Awards for Outstanding Individual Excellence for her work as a Traffic Reporter (2005, 2007); an Edward R. Murrow Award for "Best News Feature" (2001); three local Emmy Awards for her work on CBS 2's broadcasts of the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon; and The Chicagoland Achievement in Radio Award for "Best News Reporter" (2001).
Carlson graduated Magna Cum Laude from Loyola University in 1991 with a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism and English. She is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Journalism at Roosevelt University.
