Joanie Lum serves as a general assignment reporter for CBS 2 Chicago.  She joined the station in October 2003 from WGN-TV, where she had worked since 1988.

Throughout her career, Lum has interviewed several celebrities and newsmakers from around the world.  Most noteworthy were her two exclusive interviews with the Dalai Lama, exiled leader of Tibet, during his visits to Chicago (1996 & 1999).

Previously, Lum worked as a reporter, anchor, producer and weathercaster at WREX-TV Rockford, IL (1987-88).  Before that, she was an associate producer at KFVS-TV in Cape Girardeau, Mo. (1985-86).  She began her broadcasting career as a reporter at KOMU-TV in Columbia, Mo. (1984).  

 Lum is active in several Asian American community organizations.  She has served as president of the Chicago chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association and is an advisory board member of the Chinese American Service League.

She won local Emmy Awards for her work on CBS 2's 2003 and 2004 broadcasts of the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon.

Lum graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia in 1984 with a Bachelor of Journalism degree.  She lives in Chicago with her husband and two children.
