Former Chicago police officer Jim Mullen joined CBS 2 as a reporter in June 2003.   Mullen is a nationally recognized champion for the rights and professional advancement for people with special needs.  He reports on issues affecting people with disabilities for the station.

Mullen's story that aired as part of CBS 2's 2006 broadcast of the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon helped the station win an Emmy Award.

Mullen, a six-year Chicago Police Department veteran, responded to a call in October of 1996. During that call, Mullen was hit by a bullet that paralyzed him from the neck down.

Since the time of his injury, Mullen has been an advocate for people living with disabilities. In 1998, he formed The Jim Mullen Foundation, a non-profit organization that provided free technology to people with special needs.  In 2001, Mullen was invited to the White House to join President Bush as he signed the "New Freedom Initiative," legislation that proposed the allocation of over $1 billion dollars to create new freedoms for people with disabilities.

Mullen and his wife Athena, who is also a Chicago police officer, live on Chicago's Northwest Side with their daughter.
